How it works
You claim and verify the listing, then fill in details. When someone searches “dumpster rental near me” or your company name, Google can show your profile with a map pin, a call button, hours, photos, and reviews. Google decides what to show based on relevance, distance, and prominence.
Names Google used before still come up: Google My Business, or GMB. The product is now called Google Business Profile.
Setup that matters for haulers
- Name: use your real business name, as it appears on trucks, invoices, and signs. Keyword stuffing can get a listing suspended.
- Categories: pick a primary category that matches your main service and add secondary ones only if they are true.
- Service area: if you travel to customers, list the cities or areas you serve. If you have a yard that customers do not visit, handle address display carefully and follow Google’s guidelines.
- Hours: include real hours and update for holidays.
- Phone and website: use a consistent number, and a landing page that matches the service.
- Photos: trucks, containers, crews, and finished jobs.
- Services: list what you offer, such as roll-off sizes or junk removal types.
Why it matters for your business
A lot of local calls start here. People searching for dumpster rental or junk removal often tap the phone number without ever visiting your site. Reviews on the profile also form first impressions.
Habits that help:
- Ask for reviews after completed jobs and reply to all of them, good and bad.
- Keep information the same across your website, directories, and the profile.
- Use call tracking carefully. Keep your main number visible, and add a tracking number as a secondary one if you need attribution.
- Check for suggested edits and spam listings.
Profile quality also feeds local search and local services ads, since Google ties several features to it.
Common questions
Can I run it without a website?
You can, but a website gives Google and customers more to trust.
What if my profile gets suspended?
Review Google’s guidelines, fix the issue, and file a reinstatement request. Common causes are address problems and name changes.
Does it cost anything?
No. Ads that use it do, but the profile itself is free.
